“Making a pop record is telling a story in big bold strokes while scoring a film is mostly staying out of the way and using an often-overlooked component to guide the storytelling. I love that I get to do both.”

Bao Vo is a Vietnamese American songwriter, music producer, and composer based in Los Angeles. He has composed music for films, games, live exhibitions, and meditation programs. His textural electronic-based soundtracks incorporate various musical genres and organic elements and his music has been featured in promotional spots for brands such as Oakley, Burton, and CrossFit.

As an indie pop musician, Vo has released music under the artist name BAO since 2018 and has worked as a primary writer, producer, and creative director for the Asian American electronic pop group Ming & Ping since 2004. His biggest musical influences include Prince, Trent Reznor, and Jon Brion.

Vo’s experience as a refugee informs his work as a musician and activist. He serves on the board of directors for The Slants Foundation and hosts a cultural interview show called Coffee with BAO.
